IF ONLY.......by Lisa Farand
IF ONLY there was a cure for brain tumours, this wouldn't be the last photo taken of me with my sister, Pat. It was taken on a beautiful, sunny day on June 28th, 2016. The heartbreaking part of that day and many more to come was the fact that my sister had just been diagnosed with a brain tumour. I'd do anything IF ONLY I could spend another day, even another hour with her! By doing the brain tumour walk, maybe I can help give the 'gift of more time' to others who are losing their loved ones to brain tumours.
First, my Dad Adrian passed away from a GBM tumour in 1995. At that time, brain tumours were very rare and there wasn't much known about them. My family did our own research, prayed, and stayed hopeful to the end. IF ONLY it was just a bad dream.
To our horror, sister Pat passed from the same type of tumour in 2016. Pat was with us for only 4 months after diagnosis. Dad and Pat were both 67 yrs. old when they went to heaven. To have a Dad and Sister pass from the same type of tumour and at the same age is very hard to accept.
IF ONLY I could do something to help people fighting brain tumours and their determined loved ones who never quit. Thus, the reason I will be doing the brain tumour walk for the 2nd year. I choose to call it "The Walk For Life" because we are 'fighting' for a longer, better quality of life until THE CURE is found. Research is the only way and that means donations are needed - any amount is greatly appreciated.
One day (hopefully soon) there will be a cure for every type of cancer. Until then, do "The Walk" and "believe"......
